6 month and 20 day check in

Monday we visited the doctor for Henry's 6 month check in. She said he looked great and was doing everything he needed to be doing at the stage. He is still in the 70- 75th percentile for weight and height. He was 18 pounds 10 ounces and 26.75 inches long. So it was pretty uneventfully just that is growing and is healthy which is wonderful.

84 dollar Chicken

We went shopping at the Coop on Saturday and they were having a slow morning. So, the cashiers were enjoying playing with Henry and they decided to weigh him on the scales at the check out. They weighed him as a chicken and he would cost 84 dollars if he were a chicken. He weighed 20 pounds clothed by the way. We will get an official measurement on Monday and I will let oyu know what that is.

Henry loved being outside the other day. It was very warm and sunny so, we all headed out into the yard to plant some lettuce and beets and working on getting the beds ready for summer. Henry tried out a snack of grass. He would get down on his tummy just to get the grass in his mouth.

We also found a nice juicy worm which we showed him. He watched it carefully and touched it rather gently. He of course tried to eat it a few times, but we stopped him. It was great fun to see him interacting with the worm.

From Eating dirty

Teeth

Henry has been working hard on cutting his two teeth on the bottom. Both are through the skin but not all the way. You can definitely feel them though. We will get a picture as soon as we can, but he likes to cover them with his tongue so you can not see them.

Library Lap time

Today, Henry I went to his first official baby lap time at the library. As usual he enjoyed watching the other children and he made friends with a few babies. He like the fast pass of singing, reading, playing bells, and moving. His favorite part was at the end, when the librarian came around with the bubble blower. He has never seen bubbles like that before and he watched them very carefully and even tried to touch them.

First Food

Today was a big Day for Henry. He went to his friend Asher's birthday. He really enjoyed the people and talked a good bit. Then he had his first bite of food, if you can call it that. It was the rice cereal that tasted a lot like paper to me. He was not real sure about it, but overall I think he thought it was fun to have something on his spoon. Last night he got to swing in his swing in the garage. He likes to swing and he laughed and smiled.

New/Old Toys

At Daniel's house Henry really enjoyed playing with Daniel's old toys. Don't worry they will not get evicted for Henry playing the drum at this house.

Flying

Henry does very well on airplanes and this trip he was particularly interested in everything that was going on. He watched the hostess, other passengers, enjoyed pulling things out of the seat pockets, but the most fascinating thing was looking at the window at the airport. He watched very carefully what was happening outside for quite a while.

Bar-B-Que

Last Weekend we fly home so, all the friends and family there could finally see little Henry. On Saturday, he attended his very first Whatley Family Stew cooking where he meet quite a few people. I think he enjoyed playing in the warm weather and see many new things. I think his Uncle Tom was most excited about showing him off. He always enjoys watching people. In the end he took a little nap in his swing. It was lots of fun to introduce him to everyone.

Company

Last night we kept Lauren and Cass along with the help of Rachel and Wesley. It was a lot of fun to see Henry and Cass together. Cass has so much control of his body and just started crawling yesterday. It was amazing to watch him and see what we have to look forward too. Henry enjoys watching Cass and the girls too. He watches them very closely.

Lauren and May enjoyed playing together. Lauren helped make sugar cookies. She was very good at rolling out the dough cutting the cookies and scooping them up onto the pan. May and Lauren also enjoyed decorating them with purple and blue icing. Lauren and May also built a pink princess castle in Henry's room, which they played in for a long time.

It was fun to have all the kids over!

20 Weeks old

On Wednesday we went for Henry's four month appointment with the doctor. He enjoyed the visit and talking with the doctors and nurses. He really enjoys anyone that is giving him attention. He is 16 pounds 11 ounces now and 26 and fourth inches long. Dr. Helton was very pleased with all the things he could do and told us to keep doing what we are doing.

Going to Sleep

Last night Henry's friend came home from church with us. May helped us put Henry to bed. She rocked her baby and sang to it doing exactly what I did with Henry. It was really cute to watch.

Ice at Starved Rock

We had fun hiking through the icy beauty. The park is on the shore of a large river. It is a set of small streams the cut deep canyons into the ground. The ice started forming a month or two earlier, but about a week before we arrived the weather turned warm (above freezing) and significant rain fell. This caused flooding and high water. By the time we arrived the rivers were within their banks, but high. The freezing weather returned and the snow and ice were coming back. The trails were very icy and slick. Each morning we hiked trails and found a few ice formation.

The trails were very icy so after two days we found steel cleats to help each of us with traction. Mother, Father, and I all slipped and fell, but it was not too bad. Virginia is the only person not to fall. I carried Henry while we walked. He would spend his time sleeping or looking at the world. The streams were all partially to completely frozen. Each waterfall formed huge icicles. The biggest was huge. Tonty Canyon had the prettiest formations. I did not have my camera, but father did. It was 4-5 stories tall and as big as a small car at the bottom. It was beautiful. The high water made all the small streams harder to cross. The trails were quite slick in places, so we walked gingerly and slowly.

At one stage we did turn back. We were in a canyon with a 20-30 ft drop to the side of a icy trail. We had gone a good ways up the trail. Then we reached a spot were a small flow of water trickles over the trail. The water had smoothed the stone over the centuries and now it was icy covered. It looked too slick with a big fall off and we turned back. Other than that we managed the trails that we picked, and often saw just a few people. On a couple of trails we were the first people to break through the ice layers so no one had been there in 7 to 10 days (Tonty). It was quite beautiful with snow and ice covering the ground. The shocking news was Mother was warm, and did not complain about the cold (highs ranged from ~12F to ~25F). A number of times father wanted to turn back, but we all decided to continue. Mother was often willing to go on. Ice formations are beautiful almost crystal like structures that sparkle. The final day we found a set of ice covered sticks and plants. The light shone like it was the finest crystal.
