Camping

This past weekend we took Henry on his first camp out. We gathered at Shades state park in Indiana with members of our church's balance group. Despite the heat and the rain we all had fun. Henry thought the tent was a pretty fun house as he called it. He enjoyed unzipping the door and climbing in an out. At night though he did insist that the doors screened portion be zipped up to cover the screen. He slept very well and even through a pretty nasty thunderstorm.
He really enjoyed playing with all the other kiddos. They played ball, pulled each other in the wagon, dug in the dirt and all sort of other fun things. He did very well sharing his toys, with all the kids.

I think his favorite part of the camp out was the canoe trip. He loved going in the big boat. He sat in the middle and in the front and even tried to paddle. He enjoyed swimming in the river when we stopped to enjoy the cool water. It was a nice way to cool off in the heat.

It was fun to enjoy fellowship and get to know these friends a little better.

Onions

We grew onions which are actually pretty easy. We started with cold dirt and planted onion sets which are small bulbs once the ground was workable.

And they quickly formed shots. Some of which were eaten as green onions.

Finally as summer started to get into full swing, they were full grown and shortly after this picture, they started to die back.

Then it was time for harvesting. Onions need to be dried to help them keep a long time. So here they are drying on a old screen. Initially, they were dried outside, but now they are inside with fan.
We have/will braid most of the onions, but after harvest, we made some french onion soup with our freshly harvested onions.

Kitchen update

It has been a while since we have posted about the kitchen project, but Henry's kitchen is almost finished. It is still in the garage and Henry loves to play with it any time we are outside. It is hard to get him in the car, because he wants to play. He now has a sink and faucet, where he pretends to wash his hands. His stove has 4 burners that you can turn on and the oven has a silver rack. He doesn't like pulling in and out the rack as much as we thought he would.

The refrigerator and freezer are now complete. Henry loves to move things from the fridge to the stove to the oven and back. The refrigerator has magnetic chalkboard paint on the door. We we get it inside we will add magnetics, which I think he will enjoy. We will introduce the chalkboard in a little while when he can better understand where to draw and not to draw, but again I think he will really like this feature too.

Magnetic Paint Working

This was such a fun project to do and Daniel did an amazing job. It is also wonderful that he loves it so much. Now I have to get busy making some food for his kitchen, hopefully, I can get that done for his birthday.

ps. The pictures are a little old. As of right now, it is basically done. Everything is attached and working. It needs a cleaning and a little touch up paint. Henry plays with it in the garage and gets upset that he can't bring it inside.
